Did you know Joni Mitchell thought her painting was what would be the focus of her artistic life rather than her singing/songwriting? When she was coming in folk clubs, she was just doing it to support herself in art school, until she took off on the music scene, and quit art school.

Since I am both a Joni fan and a Courtney fan, I’d like to point out that Courtney uses words from this Joni song in “Clouds” (Pretty on the Inside):
Rows and flows of angelf hair.
And ice-cream castles in the air.
And feather canyons everywhere.
Looks at clouds that way.
Moons and junes and ferris wheels.
The dizzy dancing.
Way you feel when every fairy tale comes real.
