Every artist right now in this climate, but women in particular, are being molded and just completely homogenized so that everyone looks the same and talks the same. Everything has become all about the surface and not about substance. It’s an exciting time though because everything has gotten so beige and uniform that something is going to come along and rock our foundations. It has to.

The tabloids complain about Madonna looking old, and people laugh at her for that. Then Madonna goes and fixes her face, and they laugh at her for that. Even thought they begrudgingly say she looks amazing, they’ll still laugh at her for trying to look young. Then she steps out, looking amazing, and the tabloids go and blow up a picture of her aging hand. Nobody’s doing that to George Clooney, blowing up pictures of his hands! I look at these magazines, and I want to say to them, What’s your point? That she’s aged? Does that surprise you? Or is your ‘point’ an attempt to undercut what she’s achieved? I think it is, even if it’s on a subconscious level.

And you probably wouldn’t turn down those hands if they were grabbing you under the table, you fucking idiots!

‎There’s not a lot of girls who want to be rock stars. There’s an awful lot of girls who want to be pop stars but there’s not a lot of girls who want to get up, take one in the face, fight, be aggressive, be in somebody’s face, stand up for what is wrong. A lot of girls who don’t value themselves unless somebody thinks they’re sexy, or they’re young, or they’re beautiful, and that kind of bums me out.
